Gareth Carr is the founder and Director of Exposed Wolf, a boutique video production company serving Sydney, the Central Coast and Newcastle. He came to filmmaking from an unexpected direction, leaving a career in land surveying to pursue it professionally, and over 14 years has led productions for hundreds of organisations across Australia and internationally, from small business marketing through to government campaigns, documentaries and feature films.
Most clients aren’t hiring Gareth to point a camera so much as to take a project from an idea to a finished film, writing the script, developing the creative concept, casting, sourcing locations, coordinating talent, directing on set and shaping the edit, so that filming becomes one part of a much broader service and it is the thinking and direction around it that clients come back for. That work spans corporate videos, testimonials and case studies, event coverage, TV commercials, training and educational videos, social media content, animated explainers, branded content, documentaries and corporate photography, with licensed drone videography adding aerial coverage whenever a production calls for it. Working with Exposed Wolf means dealing directly with Gareth throughout, rather than being handed down a chain.
That direct relationship is deliberate, with Exposed Wolf run as a boutique studio rather than a large agency, so that clients get Gareth’s creative direction and a single point of accountability from first call to final delivery. When a production needs more hands, he scales through a trusted network of specialist crew, cinematographers, drone operators, editors, colourists and sound recordists he has worked with for years, and directs them to a consistent standard.
It is what lets the studio take on ambitious, multi-location work while keeping the personal, senior touch of a small team, an approach that has been recognised beyond the client roster when Exposed Wolf was named Video Content Agency of the Year, NSW at the 2024 Australian Enterprise Awards.
Gareth’s own eye was shaped early, when he studied Graphic Design at the University of Huddersfield and built a foundation in composition, typography and visual communication that still informs how he directs lighting, framing and grading. He also holds a Certificate in Computer Aided Design and an A Level in Photography, and remains a working cinematographer alongside his directing, as well as a member of the Australian Cinematographers Society.
His commercial work sits alongside a growing body of feature film credits, and his experience reaches well beyond Australia, with international productions across New Zealand, Samoa, India and the United Kingdom. Gareth wrote and directed the psychological thriller Saving Grace, which secured worldwide distribution and is available on streaming platforms including Amazon Prime. The film won Best International Feature at the MiraBan UK Film Awards 2023. He also wrote and directed the Australian feature Life After Man, currently in post-production, which features one of the final screen performances of the late Jack Charles AO and drew coverage across local newspapers and radio. On both features Gareth led the creative team, working with specialist cinematographers, composers and designers to bring the films to screen. His full film credits are listed on IMDb.
Beyond production, Gareth shares what he knows, hosting the filmmaking podcast Action, Cut, and Everything in Between, publishing behind-the-scenes and educational content across LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube, and, earlier in his career, teaching filmmaking to children in the UK.
Over 14 years he has built long-term relationships with businesses, agencies, government departments and national organisations, with work trusted by the NSW Department of Education, Roberts Co, TMGM, Tip Top Equipment, NAWIC, Waste Initiatives, Sculpture by the Sea, Poolwerx and Kickin’ Inn, among many others. He is a member of the Australian Cinematographers Society and holds a CASA Remote Pilot Licence, allowing him to undertake commercial drone operations throughout Australia.
